Apples with berry compote - Äpplen med bärkompott (retro)

APPLES WITH BERRY COMPOTE
Äpplen med bärkompott

4 servings

4 large, loose apples
butter or margarine for the dish
fruit for filling (plums, dates, figs, raisins e t c)
2½ cups fresh raspberries
or corresponding amount of frozen berries
¾ cup sugar


Core the apples and put them on a greased, oven-proof dish. Bake the apples at 440F in the lower part of the oven until tender. Allow to cool.

Rinse the fresh raspberries or thaw the frozen ones. Gently stir them with sugar. If you use fresh berries, you can bring them to a boil with sugar and allow to cool. Pour the berries over the apples, which you have first filled with fruit as stated above.

The apples are lovely as an accompaniment with ice cream, but you can also serve them with whipped cream flavoured with some liqueur or brandy.
