Ground meat patties on a potato bed - Köttfärsbiffar på potatisbädd

GROUND MEAT PATTIES ON A POTATO BED
Köttfärsbiffar på potatisbädd

Ground meat patties and potatoes in the same dish – serve with a salad and dinner’s ready.

4 servings

1 lb ground meat, 50% beef and 50% pork
1 slice white loaf bread
1/3 cup milk
1 small onion
1½ teaspoons salt
white pepper
2 teaspoons dried sage
½ tablespoon paprika
1 egg
1 to 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
6 middle-sized potatoes
2 tomatoes
¾ cup crème fraîche
½ to 1 tablespoon chopped green pepper
1 cup grated cheese

Crumble the bread and leave to swell in the milk for about 5 minutes. Chop the onion. Mix the ground meat with 1 teaspoon salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon sage, paprika, egg, onion and bread. Shape the meat to 8 patties. Melt the fat in a frying pan and brown them on both sides until coloured.

Peel the potatoes, cut them in thin slices and put them in a roof-tile pattern in the bottom of an oven-proof dish. Flavour them with some salt, pepper and 1 teaspoon sage. Put the patties on the potato bed. Chop the tomatoes and mix them with crème fraîche, green pepper, ½ teaspoon salt and grated cheese. Spoon the mixture over the patties and potatoes in the dish and bake in the middle of the oven at 390F for about 35 minutes or until the potatoes are tender. Serve the dish.

It’s easier to chop dried green pepper if you first soak it in water for about 5 minutes.

Enjoy!
