NOUGAT SQUARES

7 oz butter or margarine
4.4 oz soft nougat
0.8 cup sugar
4 eggs
1.2 cup flour
1 teaspoon vanilla sugar
Topping:
3½ oz nougat
1 tablespoon heavy cream
coconut chips
Preheat oven to 347F.
Stir butter, nougat and sugar until white and fluffy. Add the eggs, one by one, while beating. The batter may look curdled, but it comes back together in the oven. Mix flour and vanilla sugar and turn this into the batter. Spread it out in a baking paper-lined pan, 8 x 12 inches. Bake just below the middle of the oven for 35 minutes and allow to cool.
Topping:
Melt nougat and cream over a waterbath. Spread it on top of the cake and sprinkle with coconut chips. Allow the topping to set and cut the cake in squares.
