FRENCH POTATO
GRATIN
Fransk potatisgratäng
1 to 2 teaspoons salt
white or black pepper
1 ¼ to 1 ¾ cups whipping cream
2 to 3 crushed garlic cloves
¾ cup grated cheese
Peel potatoes and onions and cut in thin slices. Alternate layers of potatoes and onions in a greased, oven-proof dish. Flavour with half of the salt and pepper between the layers. Mix cream, remaining spices and garlic and pour the cream over the potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese.

You can make real delicacies from potatoes. This
gratin, creamy and delicious, is always a success at the dinner table.
4 servings
10 to 12 potatoes
1 to 2 onions1 to 2 teaspoons salt

Peel potatoes and onions and cut in thin slices. Alternate layers of potatoes and onions in a greased, oven-proof dish. Flavour with half of the salt and pepper between the layers. Mix cream, remaining spices and garlic and pour the cream over the potatoes. Sprinkle with cheese.
Bake in the middle of the oven at 440F for
about 45 minutes or until the potatoes are tender.
If you want the gratin to contain less fat,
substitute half of the cream with milk.
This gratin is especially good with roast beef, lamb
roast, smoked or boiled ham, or eat it as a main dish with salad and a nice
bread.
