Ground Beef Au Gratin with Potatoes and Cheese Sauce - Köttfärsgratäng med potatis och ostsås

GROUND BEEF AU GRATIN WITH
POTATOES AND CHEESE SAUCE
Köttfärsgratäng med potatis och ostsås

Serves 4

Gratin:
1 lb 5 oz firm potatoes
butter for frying
14 oz finely ground beef
1 large onion
1 can crushed tomatoes, 14 oz
2 garlic cloves
some dried thyme
salt, pepper

Cheese sauce:
1,7 oz butter
2 tablespoons flour
1.6 cups creamy milk
0.8 cup ripe, grated cheese

For serving:
salad

Peel the potatoes and cut in smaller pieces. Boil until almost tender in lightly salted water for 5 to 6 minutes. Pour off the water and spread out the potatoes on a plate.

Cheese sauce:
Melt the butter in a saucepan and sift with flour. Add creamy milk and bring to a boil while stirring. If the sauce is too thick, you can dilute with some milk. Add cheese and melt it while stirring. Flavor to taste with salt and pepper.

Heat up some butter in a frying pan and fry "pieces" of the ground beef in the pan until nicely colored. Flavor with salt and pepper. Preheat oven to 347F.

Peel the onion and cut in wedges. Mix the crushed tomatoes with crushed garlic and thyme in an oven-proof pan. Add potatoes, ground beef and onion wedges on top of the tomato sauce and top with the cheese sauce. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes until the sauce gets slightly colored.

Serve the gratin smoking hot with a mixed salad.

Enjoy!

Bella
