ORANGE FROMAGE
Apelsinfromage
"Fromage" is a French word that means "cheese", but it's also a very popular dessert in Sweden. I remember it from my childhood days in the 1960s, it was mostly made from powder mixed with water to make it quick and easy, and the powder is still sold in many different flavors. But real, home-made fromage is hard to beat. Try this one!
Serves 6
6 gelatin sheets or
3 teaspoons powder gelatin
2 eggs, separated
5 tablespoons sugar
1.2 cups heavy cream
grated zest from 2 oranges
fresh juice from 1 orange
Decoration:
whipped cream
orange wedges, grapes,
physalis berries (Cape gooseberries, says Google)
Soak the gelatin sheets in cold water in a bowl for about 5 minutes. Beat egg yolks and sugar until white and fluffy. Beat the cream, then clean the beaters thoroughly and beat the egg whites until stiff in another bowl.
Take up the gelatin and melt it together with orange juice in a saucepan. Stir it into the egg yolk mixture with the orange zest. Gently blend in the cream and last the egg whites. Pour in a dish or round baking pan and put in the fridge for about 4 hours. Loosen it around the edges and unmould on a serving plate. Decorate with fruit and whipped cream.
Enjoy!
