GRILLED FALU SAUSAGE WITH VEGGIE STEW
Grillad falukorv med grönsaksstuvning
Grilled Falu sausage, cut in a different way. Other sausages suitable for grilling are wiener sausages, thicker sausages or the shorter sausage called Prince Sausage here in Sweden. In a later post I will enclose pictures of all the types of sausages that are usual in the Swedish kitchen. But a substitute for the Falu sausage can be Frankfurter or Strasbourger sausage, from what I've read somewhere.
Serves 4
14 oz Falu sausage or substitution
1 lb frozen vegetable mix of your choice
(in Sweden it's common to use a mix of cauliflower,
carrots, green beans and green peas that we buy in
freezer bags)
salt
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons flour
1.6 cup milk
salt
grated nutmeg (again, I don't like it so I don't use it)
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
Pull the skin off the sausage and cut it in approx 4 inches long pieces, then slice the pieces lengthwise. Boil the veggies barely tender in lightly salted water.
Melt the fat in a saucepan, stir in the flour and dilute with milk. Bring to a boil while stirring and boil for a few minutes. Stir occasionally. Add the veggies and flavor with salt and optional nutmeg. Sprinkle with chopped parsley.
Grill the sausage without any fat in a suitable pan on the stovetop. Serve with the stewed veggies. bread and tomatoes.
Enjoy!
