STRAWBERRIES WITH RUM AND CREAM

When strawberries are in season we should enjoy the fresh berries as much as we can. For many desserts the small, maybe not so expensive strawberries are good. The taste is often more concentrated than in the very large berries.
Serves 4
1 lb strawberries
1 large orange
3 to 4 tablespoons rum
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1 cup heavy cream
½ vanilla pod
2 to 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
Rinse and trim the strawberries. Drizzle the orange juice and the rum over them and sprinkle with powdered sugar. Gently stir and leave in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours.
Beat the cream. Split the vanilla pod and gently scrape out the seeds. Stir them into the whipped cream together with powdered sugar. Serve the berries in serving bowls or cups and add the cream just before serving.
